Finding decent accommodation when working away from home can be difficult. Through experience we know that staying in bad digs makes the whole thing of being away from family, friends, and loved ones even worse. Finishing a long shift, then dreading going back to  a scruffy dirty room can be quite demoralizing. So what we have done at PC is research where to stay by checking such websites as TripAdvisor, and finding out where Pipefitters have stayed and recommended.

ABERDDEN.jpg

Aberdeen is a port city on the far north east coast of Scotland which for many years has served as a link for Pipefitters to gain access to the offshore industry. Aberdeen itself has been shaped by Oil and Gas and has  itself evolved into a hub for these industries.

Aberdeen is a cosmopolitan and connected place with people from all over the world working or settling here.

Over the years most Pipefitters will use the transport links in Aberdeen to get to their oil rig or platforms. Aberdeen airport is usually where you will catch your chopper to go offshore and work in the North Sea,

You can use the East coast Main Line to Aberdeen or alternatively Dyce.

LNER is the rail company that runs this franchise and has good links to everywhere in the UK. A journey from Newcastle to Aberdeen will normally take up to four hours, and a journey from Edinburgh will take two hours thirty minutes. If you do catch a train then you will have to take public transport or a taxi to the airport from the railway station.

The airport shuttle bus from Aberdeen is a good option and is reasonably priced.at £5.20 for a 28 day pass. This takes you fro the town center to the airport with a dedicated shelter outside the terminal which runs every 10 minutes during the week and 30 minutes at the weekend.

If you want to fly to Aberdeen which can be a good option most major airports have flights which take you to Aberdeen Airport from:

Belfast

Humberside

Durham Tees Valley

London

Newcastle

Manchester

Birmingham

Norwich

Newquay

Also you can gain access to the Shetland Islands from Aberdeen via the airport or ferry. The journey normally takes 12 hours.by ferry and can be a good alternative to flying as Lerwick Airport can have  issues with fog from time to time.
