Deciding what training required is a difficult decision for a Pipefitter. We will explain the types of training needed.
CCSNG (Safety passport). This course normally lasts for 2 days and is a course designed to give workers working in the onshore oil/gas/chemical industries an understanding of site health and safety. Any delegate who has a valid CCNSG Safety Passport which is due to expire. Candidates who wish to renew their Safety Passport early can do so up to 3 months prior to the expiry date. Delegates are given 3 months after the date of expiry to renew their card This normally costs between £120-£175. Most employers will ask for this card.
CSCS Card: This course normally lasts for a day with classroom and online test. This allows workers to work in the construction industry. The CSCS needs a classroom course to give you the knowledge and revision to pass the online test. The CITB will then ask for evidence of your training or apprenticeship details. Most tradesmen will gain a gold card, and the course normally costs between £110-£150.
Offshore working in the UK you will be required to undergo particular types of training and testing. These are the courses you will need to gain an OPITO certificate.
(Offshore petroleum industry training organization) certificate.

BOSIET: This training normally lasts for three days and gives new workers to the offshore industry an insight into emergency and offshore safety procedure, all offshore workers must hold this certificate. This course generally costs about £700 depending on which training provider you choose to use, some providers will put additional courses with BOSIET such as a Compressed air emergency breathing system.
MIST: This normally lasts for two days and is a Health and safety course which relates to hazards and controls in the offshore industry, all offshore workers must hold this certificate. This course generally costs around £400.
OGUK Medical This normally costs around £175 and training providers will normally offer the medical with other training. Also shoulder measurement are taken in this medical which allows you to correctly fit on a helicopter.
Overall the offshore survival course will cost around £1200-£1500
MJI 10/18/19 ( Mechanical joint integrity). This course allows a Pipefitter to torque and fit flanges in the correct manner and will give you the certification needed for most offshore installations. Normally the MJI 10 is achieved firstly in training with hand torquing, their after documentary evidence of on site aptitude is submitted and the 18/19 is taken. The MJI 18/19 are hydraulically and bolting tension techniques. The prices of these courses vary vastly with a MJI 10 normally costing around £150-£200.
MEWP Training (Mobile Elevated Working) This training is for using scissor lifts and cherry pickers. This can be normally found locally but you can find training providers on the regulators IPAF website.
PASMA This training allows you to erect Mobile scaffold towers, training can be found locally by registered training providers found at the PASMA website.
